With the health emergency imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, starting in 2020, the FMUSP-HC Academic Health System has developed several initiatives to guarantee quality assistance to the population. In addition, due to its nature that integrates research, teaching, care and innovation, the System's scientific laboratories and care groups have invested in generating knowledge about the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the epidemiological characteristics of the disease and its impacts on the human health.
The FFM acted directly in the viability of contracts and partnerships with national and international institutions, guaranteeing resources for the development of scientific research that would allow understanding both the biomolecular characteristics of the virus and the prevalence of the disease in the population. Different clinical trials on new treatments (phase I, II and III) and the evolution of the disease in hospitalized patients were also funded, in addition to studies on the impacts of the pandemic on the mental health of health professionals and the effectiveness of the vaccines.
