Introduction

The Compliance Program is a structured set of institutional measures aimed at preventing, detecting, punishing, and remedying practices of corruption, fraud, irregularities, and ethical misconduct. The Fundação Faculdade de Medicina, in pursuit of best compliance practices, is developing an integrity governance program using as a benchmark the guidelines established by the Brazilian ABNT Standards related to the theme of compliance culture.

Among these standards, we highlight the ABNT NBR ISO 37301 as the main reference, which specifies requirements and provides guidance on compliance management systems and best practices. Additionally, we must mention the ABNT NBR ISO 9000 and 9001 standards for Quality Management Systems; ABNT NBR ISO 14001 for Environmental Management Systems; ABNT NBR ISO 19011 for Guidelines on auditing management systems; ABNT NBR ISO 26000 for guidelines on social responsibility; ABNT NBR ISO/IEC 27001 for Information Security Management Systems; ABNT NBR ISO 31000 and 31001 for Risk Management; ABNT NBR ISO 37001 for Anti-Bribery Management Systems; and ISO 37002 for Whistleblowing Management Systems. It's important to note that compliance is a continuous process and the result of an organization fulfilling its obligations.

It becomes sustainable when integrated into the organization's culture, and the behavior and attitude of the people working for the organization. At the Fundação Faculdade de Medicina, the compliance office operates independently but integrates with the organization's other management processes. In this scenario, the implementation of the Compliance Management System at the Fundação Faculdade de Medicina aims to prevent potential irregularities and offenses that could harm the organization's reputation and avoid losses from fines and sanctions imposed according to national and international anti-corruption standards.
